The JJY-YGD38M-18L is a miniature 80 GHz radar distance sensor built for short-range level and distance measurement — 0.05 m to 2 m, with ±3 mm accuracy and a 4 cm blind zone. It ships in two output versions, TTL UART or RS485, and returns a fresh distance reading every 20 ms (configurable), so it keeps up with fast level changes instead of averaging them away. The whole sensor screws into an M22×1.5 threaded hole, which is what makes it small enough to disappear into an OEM enclosure.

The sensor body screws straight into an M22×1.5 threaded boss, so it takes the space of a cable gland rather than a process instrument. That is what lets it sit inside a machine housing, on a small tank lid or on a skid where a 1-inch or 1.5-inch gauge simply has no room. The ABS housing keeps the weight off thin-wall tanks and plastic vessels.
The sampling interval is 20 ms and configurable, so the module delivers a fresh distance value about 50 times a second. That is fast enough for dosing control, filling machines, moving targets and level tracking in small vessels that empty in seconds — where a slow sensor only shows you where the level used to be.
With a 4 cm blind zone, measurement starts at 0.05 m from the antenna face. You can mount the sensor close to the top of a small tank and still read the last few centimetres, which is exactly the part of the range that matters in compact vessels, dosing reservoirs and small buffer tanks.
Buffer tanks, RO and purified-water reservoirs, chemical dosing containers — anywhere the full range is 2 m or less and the top of the vessel is close to the antenna.
The TTL UART version talks straight to an MCU at 3.3–4 V, which is why the module gets built into filling equipment, dispensers, cleaning machines and level-controlled pumps.
20 ms sampling makes it usable on moving targets, fast filling cycles and short position strokes — applications where response time, not absolute range, is the limiting factor.

The sensor mounts through an M22×1.5 threaded hole — the size of a standard cable gland rather than a process connection. The housing is ABS, so it adds almost no weight to thin-wall or plastic tanks.
0.05 m to 2 m from the antenna face, with a 4 cm blind zone. Measurement therefore starts 4 cm from the antenna, and the reading stays linear over the rest of the range.
The sampling interval is 20 ms and configurable — roughly 50 fresh readings per second. It can be slowed down when you want a smoother output or lower average power.
Choose TTL UART (3.3–4 V, 10 mA) when the sensor talks directly to a microcontroller inside your machine. Choose RS485 (5–12 V, 12 mA) when it has to run over a longer cable to a PLC or a data logger. The protocol can be customised — Modbus or a simple text protocol — for OEM projects.
±3 mm ranging accuracy with a ±10° beam angle. Keep ladders, sidewalls and internal pipework out of the beam cone and the reading stays within that figure.
Yes — the housing is rated IP68 and the operating range is −40 °C to +75 °C. Because it is contactless (80 GHz electromagnetic waves through the antenna face), it also copes with high dust and humidity better than optical or ultrasonic sensors.
One unit. There is no minimum order quantity: a single evaluation unit, a 20-unit trial order and a 500-unit batch are all accepted. Quantities under 20 units ship directly from stock; 20–500 units are scheduled into production.
1–20 units: dispatched within 2 working days from stock. 20–500 units: 1–4 weeks for a scheduled production run, depending on the current schedule. Customised versions follow exactly the same schedule — customisation does not extend the lead time.
Measuring range, communication protocol, cable length and private labelling are all customisable. One free sample is provided — the buyer covers the freight.
