4G RTU and telemetry gateways connect instruments that are already installed but not connected. Most plants have a working 4-20 mA or RS-485 Modbus instrument and no cheap way to get its reading off site. A gateway reads the local bus and pushes the data to your SCADA, cloud platform or phone over 4G LTE — no PLC change and no new cabling.
A single gateway collects readings from multiple radar or ultrasonic level gauges over one RS-485 bus, so one 4G subscription covers a whole tank farm. Every tank then appears on your phone or computer with its own level, trend and alarm state, without a separate transmitter per site.
Where an operator needs the level on site, the remote level indicator connects straight to the radar level transmitter, shows the live value on a backlit LCD and adds two switch outputs for pump control or high / low alarms — useful when the 4G link is only for recording, not for control.
The point of a gateway is to avoid touching what already works. Existing sensors stay in place, the PLC programme stays as it is, and the gateway is added in parallel to read and forward the data. Commissioning is usually a wiring job, not a software project.
Readings can be pushed to your own server or platform by API, viewed on phone and PC, and exported for reporting. Configurable reporting intervals keep the 4G data volume — and therefore the running cost — low.
