Ultrasonic Level Transmitters

Ultrasonic level transmitters measure level by timing the echo of an ultrasonic pulse from the liquid surface. They are the lower-cost choice where the surface is calm and there is no heavy foam, vapour or turbulence — clean water tanks, rivers, reservoirs, open channels and non-pressurised storage.

Ultrasonic or radar?

The honest answer: use ultrasonic where it works, because it costs less. It stops working where the surface is disturbed or the vapour above it absorbs sound — foaming tanks, hot liquids, agitated vessels, fine powders. In those applications a radar transmitter is the correct choice and we will say so rather than sell you the cheaper unit that fails. If you are unsure, send us the medium, tank height and whether the surface is still, and we will tell you which technology fits.

Range and outputs

Measuring ranges reach 20 m with 4-20 mA and RS-485 Modbus-RTU outputs. Both integrated versions (sensor and electronics in one housing) and split versions (remote sensor plus separate main unit with display) are available — the split version is the practical option when the tank top is hard to reach for reading or wiring.

Typical applications

  • River and reservoir water level monitoring
  • Open channel flow measurement with a weir or flume
  • Clean water and process water tanks
  • Non-pressurised storage where a low-cost transmitter is enough

Selection help

Installation is non-contact — the sensor mounts above the liquid, so there is no process downtime. Tell us the medium, the measuring span and whether there is foam or vapour, and we will confirm the model and the mounting position, including the dead band to keep clear below the sensor face.
