Oil & Gas Level Measurement

Oil and gas service — separators, storage tanks, produced-water pits and pipeline metering — needs accurate, safe, non-contact measurement in hazardous, often remote locations.

01 · Challenges

Common Challenges

  • Explosive atmospheres require certified Ex equipment.
  • Emulsions and vapour confuse contacting and low-frequency sensors.
  • Remote sites with no wired network.
  • Interface (oil/water) measurement in separators.

Recommended Instruments

80 GHz Radar

80 GHz Radar — Ex ia, non-contact

The 80 GHz FMCW radar carries Ex ia IIC T6 Ga approval and measures through vapour and emulsion without touching the product. 4–20 mA with HART or RS485 drops straight into the facility DCS. For separators it can resolve the oil/water interface.

4G Solar

4G Solar — remote tanks and pipelines

For remote tank farms and pipeline sites, the 4G solar monitor reports level, volume and alarms to the cloud with no trenching and no monthly fees.

03 · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it measure the oil/water interface?

In a separator, a properly configured 80 GHz radar tracks both the top surface and the oil–water interface where dielectric contrast is sufficient. Tell us the fluids and we will size the antenna and set the echo map.

Is it certified for hazardous areas?

The radar is certified Ex ia IIC T6 Ga with IP66/67/68 enclosure; install to the certified drawing for Zone 0/1 vapour service.
